AWS Cost Optimization · Cloud Migration · Database Modernization · FinOps
AWS modernization and cost optimization that pays for itself.
18 years leading AWS-centric cloud, data, and FinOps programs at enterprise scale (with Azure and Google Cloud fluency where multi-cloud is in play) — now available to bring that same modernization and cost optimization expertise to organizations on a contract basis.
Not your typical cloud consulting
I partner with your existing team — engineering, finance, and procurement — to change how the organization operates day to day. I don't come in, build something, and leave you maintaining it forever.
No commission, ever
I'm not a sales team. I don't earn commission on any technology, vendor, or platform — so every recommendation is based on total cost of ownership, not who's paying me.
Cost to the company, not the budget line
It's not about whose budget something sits in — it's about what it actually costs the business. I work horizontally across teams to connect the dots that get missed when everyone optimizes their own line item.
Built to run without me
I establish new processes and ways of working your team can own — not a system only I can maintain. The goal is a capability that outlasts the engagement.
Impact first, artifacts second
Whether it's lowering cost, defining a go-forward tech strategy, or a short engagement to get a roadmap directionally correct, the measure is business impact — not a deck.
Three ways to bring me in
Each of these has been a full-time mandate at enterprise scale. As a contractor, they're available individually or combined — as an assessment, an architecture, or hands-on delivery leadership.
AWS Cloud & Database Modernization
- AWS migration strategy across rehost, replatform, and refactor patterns
- Oracle @ AWS modernization — engineered systems experience, plus Solaris-to-Linux consolidation of legacy on-prem estates
- Oracle & SQL Server migration paths to RDS and open-source alternatives, including Oracle EE → SE2 license modeling and feature-parity analysis
- Workload assessment using AWS SCT, DMS, and complexity scoring
AWS-Native Data & AI Architecture
- Data lake and analytics platform design (S3, Glue, Athena, Redshift, Snowflake, Databricks)
- Architecture roadmaps, standards, and reference blueprints
- GenAI and Bedrock enablement patterns with governance built in
- Data cataloging and metadata management
AWS FinOps & Cost Optimization
- Cost allocation, showback/chargeback, and forecasting models
- TCO modeling and ROI analysis for cloud investment decisions
- AWS Enterprise Discount Program (EDP) & private pricing negotiation support
- Governance: policy-as-code, tagging standards, anomaly detection
Cloud Optimization, Priced on Results
For organizations that want cost savings without hiring a FinOps team or committing to a fixed-fee engagement — I assess your spend, implement the optimization, and get paid a share of what's actually saved. No results, no fee.
Assess
A focused audit of your AWS, Azure, or GCP spend — rightsizing opportunities, idle and orphaned resources, Reserved Instance & Savings Plan coverage, storage tiering, and licensing waste. No cost, no commitment.
Optimize
Hands-on implementation across EC2 & RDS rightsizing, storage optimization (S3, EBS), and license & extended-support cost reduction — with automated workflows and reporting so the organization operates this way going forward, plus change control so nothing breaks.
Share the Savings
You pay a percentage of the savings that are verified and realized against your baseline spend, measured over time. If nothing's saved, nothing's owed.
At enterprise scale, this exact playbook rightsized 4,000+ of 6,000+ EC2 instances through a fully automated weekly process, delivering $3M+ in annualized savings without impacting application performance or reliability.
Additional Capabilities
More specialized engagements, available on their own or layered onto a modernization or optimization program.
FinOps Maturity Assessment
Stand up the FinOps organization, chargeback/showback mechanisms, and cloud spend forecasting models your team needs — with the KPIs to prove it's working, without buying expensive commercial tooling. I'll help you go from crawling to flying.
Licensing & Contract Negotiation
Cloud license assessments (on-prem vs. cloud, AWS vs. Azure vs. GCP, Windows/SQL AHUB comparisons), software contract renewals, and Private Pricing Agreement negotiation across Oracle, Microsoft, AWS, and VMware — independent advice, not vendor-aligned.
Platform Architecture & Reporting
Cloud-native microservice data ingestion patterns, enrichment layers that standardize data into common formats, and executive reporting that ties technical work back to business outcomes.
Platform Engineering & Operations
Secure landing zones, established deployment patterns for cloud applications and websites, and continuous monitoring — including experience in niche regions such as AWS China.
What I work in day to day
AWS-first, with Azure and GCP fluency for organizations running multi-cloud.
18 years, six releases
Career progression, read the way I'd document any system: what shipped, and when.
- Led a global team of 30+ engineers; directed FinOps strategy for $100M+ in annual AWS/Azure/GCP spend
- Rightsized 4,000+ of 6,000+ EC2 instances through a fully automated weekly process, delivering $3M+ in annualized savings with no impact to performance or reliability
- Negotiated $200M+ in AWS Enterprise Discount Program commitments, improving unit pricing across EC2, RDS, S3, and WorkSpaces
- Built the enterprise FinOps platform (AI + data lake driven) for cost allocation, forecasting, anomaly detection, and showback
- Lead architect for the Modernization Factory program: migrated 6,000+ VMware instances to AWS, delivering $47–50M in infrastructure savings
- Directed the program's RFI phase, evaluating total cost of ownership and license coverage across AWS, Azure, OCI, and GCP — including commercial licensing for Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, and Windows Server — to inform hyperscaler selection and a license optimization strategy that combined selective open-source adoption with right-sizing existing commercial license models for the cloud
- Modernized 1,300+ databases, including 300+ Oracle EE workloads, cutting Oracle license cost by $3M+ annually
- Modernized the Digital Finance data integration platform, transitioning workloads from commercial data integration tools such as Talend to AWS-native services including AWS Glue, Amazon S3, and Amazon Redshift — eliminating $500K in annual software licensing costs while establishing scalable, cloud-native data ingestion patterns
- Designed and delivered microservices-based analytics integration solutions to replace costly commercial middleware, avoiding $140K in development costs while improving scalability and time-to-market for new data services
- Directed enterprise architecture standards across Treasury, Finance, and Compliance platforms, accelerating the shift from legacy commercial toolchains to cloud-native, API-driven architectures
- Led Oracle technology engagements spanning Oracle E-Business performance optimization and PeopleSoft replatforming to Oracle Exadata engineered systems, including performance tuning of complex PeopleSoft upgrade processes
- Architected and executed database performance optimization initiatives — analyzing database and application workloads to identify bottlenecks and implementing SQL and PL/SQL tuning strategies across enterprise environments
- Led SQL performance technical training for 20+ engineers and developed the technical capabilities of 5+ junior consultants supporting multiple concurrent client engagements within Accenture's Solution Delivery Center
- Led performance engineering for the Model N Flex revenue management platform — supporting Revenue Management, Chargeback, and Government Pricing modules — during a major post-merger integration program, diagnosing application and backend Oracle database performance issues across complex enterprise workloads
- Performed hands-on Oracle database performance tuning, leveraging SQL Profiles, index optimization strategies, SQL tuning, and PL/SQL rewrites to resolve critical performance bottlenecks and improve application response times ahead of production go-live
- Partnered with the software vendor and Managed Care, Chargeback, and Government Pricing business teams to identify and resolve critical performance defects, documenting and presenting performance testing metrics to stakeholders ahead of go-live
- Owned performance, security, and backup/recovery for enterprise PeopleSoft HR and Finance environments
